In Nigeria, the lead agency in Road Traffic Management operates road safety club in primary, secondary schools and the one year compulsory post graduate youth service corps basically to inculcate road safety culture in the children and the youth among other measures. do you have such in your country? if you do please I would like to know their operation and a possible link to them.

John,

Thank you for your question.

According to Lorrie Walker, our Training Manager and Technical Advisor for child passenger safety, in the United States we don't have a coordinated, national safety education program. Each state decides how they want to educate children and adolescents about road safety. For example, many of our Safe Kids coalitions visit schools and provide an education program to the kids. That is not the case though in all 50 states. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration makes materials available for school age children and adults and it is up to the state to determine how they want that taught. A few colleges have classes for teachers or public health students but there is nothing that is taught systematically in all 50 states at all education levels.

If you would like to learn more about voluntary safety education or child passenger safety, please contact Lorrie Walker at lwalker@safekids.org.
